Solskjear and Rashford Wins January Awards. Manchester United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s flying start rewarded with the Premier League Manager of the month award for January 2019.
Marcus Rashford on the other hand became the first Manchester United’s player, to win the premier league player of the month. The last to do so was Zlatan Ibrahimovic won it in December 2016.
Solskjaer picked 10 points out of a possible 12 in January. He is now the first United’s manager to win the award after Sir Alex Ferguson, in October, 2012. The same season the club last won the premier league title.

After receiving the trophy, solskjear in a press-conference on Friday morning praised his backroom staffs for their collective efforts.
“Honestly, I’m a little bit against individual team awards for a team sport”. He said, “but it means we’ve been the team of the month, so this is both for the staff and the players.
”We complement each other really well,“ he added. ”The hours and hours that Kieran and Michael spend on planning the sessions, doing the sessions, working with individuals. We’re a good group. We bounce off each other. Opinions are being thrown about in that office and in the end I’m the “lucky one” that has to make a decision on who to leave out or to play.
“We want to be winning games. We want to move up the table and this is the start of it.”
Rashford on the other hand acknowledged his team mates for their collective efforts.
“It’s always good to pick up individual awards, but I think the way we’ve performed as a team has been very good over the last few weeks“. Marcus told Man Utd press, when collecting his award. ”The aim for us now is to just continue it, but we have to take it game by game and one step at a time” he added.
Why Solskjear and Rashford wins January Awards
Solskjaer’s team won their first five fixtures for the month before the 2-2 draw against Burnley on the final game of the month. With the run of form, United closed down the 11 points gap to the top four to 2 points.
The peak of it all was the narrow 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, the club’s first away victory over the North London club since March 2012.
with that victory, Solskjaer became the first United’s manager to win his first six games in charge. Sir Matt Busby, the previous record holder drew his sixth match after winning five.
Rashford made six appearances in January, scored three goals and was twice voted Man of the Match by supporters – against Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion.
In the first game of the year against Newcastle Rashford scored one of the two goals, also scored the decider against Spurs and
Brighton & Hove Albion.
